jetty cleanup and the euro pugs

Today was the OB Jetty Cleanup, which happens every once in awhile. There is a regular Dog Beach Cleanup the 1st Saturday of each month, but I've never seen this many people, mostly teens, show up. They bussed elementary schools in, college and high school kids were there... I swear there were more people than dogs around 9:30 AM.

91X (one of SD's alternative rock radio stations) showed up with music. And so did a guy playing the bagpipes. I swear. He went to the middle of the beach and started blowing on the horn. Crazy. I was almost to the parking lot when I heard him and was too lazy to return all the way back to snap a pic, so you'll have to just imagine it this time.

[A bus of elementary school kids showed up by bus to sign up and help clean the beach.]

[Two of the smallest pugs showed up to play with TempTide. They went in to instant submissive mode when Tempest showed airs. So, all was good. Leah, owner of Oliver (another pug) calls them the Euro Pugs since their owners are from somewhere in northern Europe.]

Not to everyone's taste but I'm a bagpipe fan too. They're very stirring, a bit like how I feel about the Scottish hills. I once told my husband that I must have been a highland chieftan in a previous life.......he said "probably more like a highland goat" Hummph.

There's a highland piper (and lawyer) who lives in OB, whose name is (honestly) Robert Burns. I don't know if that was him, but could be...

About This Blog

San Diego's Dog Beach (in Ocean Beach) is the original leash-free dog beach. It's a stretch of sand and ocean that is one big 24-hour playground for canines and humans. This unique place is home to many, and a special trip for others. There is always a story to tell. I'm lucky enough to visit Dog Beach nearly every day, and this blog is my way of sharing a wonderful place with anyone who loves dogs, the beach, or both.

I'm a PR gun for hire that spends much of my day tied to the computer or iPhone. After moving to San Diego from the Midwest 14 years ago, I never looked back. I found my home. My home office is only a mile away from the Pacific Ocean, which allows me to enjoy mornings at San Diego's most excellent leash-free beach with my dogs. Social and exercise time for all of us.
