The original 24/7/365 leash-free beach in Ocean Beach, San Diego.
Sorry for the lack of posts this weekend. I was just plain lazy. But, onward to today's pics...
Lots to do today, so we made a quick trip this morning. But I still managed to get a couple of usable shots.
Writer and photographer (and occasional reader of A Dog's Beach) Jean Fogle published a fun collection of dog beach photos from her side of the country. She was kind enough to send me a copy of the book, and it's fantastic! And I'm not just saying that because there's a Frenchie on the cover.
It's like a dog beach blog in hardcover. :)
The photos are delightful, including the accompanying quotes and phrases. Just about every type of dog you can imagine is represented, including the Jack Russel Terrier (Molly) that her husband gave her as a gift years ago.
If you're at Dog Beach here in San Diego, or any beach or dog park across the country, you'll enjoy this book. It's a great gift idea for the dog lover in your life, too.

It was super foggy this morning, but that didn't stop me from making out the shape of Pete & Muriel coming down the beach with a... PUPPY! Yep, after losing their beloved Sera two weeks go, Muriel couldn't do without a dog any longer.
She said she couldn't wait any longer than the 13 days. Sara (named in honor of Sera, of course), went home with Pete & Muriel on Father's Day. Today was her first trip to the beach. How fun to watch a puppy grow every day for the next year or so!
This type of pic (running with another dog) is almost always of Riptide, but Tempest took chase this morning. Look at that little chubby girl run!
We've heard about Boz for the past couple of weeks, but we keep missing him. This morning, he was right there in front of us. Another Frenchie that loves to play and steal dogs from other balls. Riptide has some competition. ;)
Another friend of the beach is gone. Doug and Barb's boy, Max, passed away on Saturday. He had a heart attack at Balboa Park while spending the day with his family. Not a bad place to go, if you ask me. He was 12 years old, and he loved to rest while on his morning walk on the sand with Katy & Sadie. We'll miss the summer daily snips of Max's long hair from Barb while she tried to stay on top of his shedding. :)
All the pups wait patiently for the always available treats while Curt and Steve enjoy some early morning conversation. Tempest is always front and center!
So, the story goes that our little Pekingese that was missing yesterday was found... twice. From what I understand, she was micro chipped (yeah!) - and the owner was called. Only it was the dog's owner from 5 years ago, when she was stolen. By this time, the new owners had put up signs looking for her. My guess is that someone stole her when she was a pup and sold her to the new, unsuspecting owners. Not sure if this is going to be a happy ending or not. :(
Read more...Tory is a pit bull mix that was a regular until about a year ago when she and her owner moved to Coronado. Coronado's nice, but it's not Dog Beach. Tory is a very sweet girl, but she can look terrifying to some folks. I caught of couple of her different looks while she watched a couple of other dogs play.
Are you missing a recently groomed Pekingese? This little girl was at the beach this morning with no owner. A regular said she was there since at least 6 AM. When we saw her at 8 AM, he has recently coaxed her to him. She is wearing a pink studded collar with no tags. We're guessing she lives in Ocean Beach and somehow got out of her house/yard.
If you know this dog, please let us know. She's been recently groomed, so someone is missing her dearly.
