late happy thanksgiving, back on wednesday
Didn't get a chance to post before visiting family for Thanksgiving, but we'll be back on Wednesday with sandy pics and tales. Hope all is having a great weekend.

Pete and Muriel got themselves a brand new puppy Doberman, Bella, less than two weeks after their beloved Sera (another Dobie) passed away a few months ago. Now, P&M haven't had a puppy in ages (Sera came to them as a trained adult), and they have quite a challenge in store for them.
Bella's nickname is "No-No-Bad-Dog". Let's just say dogs have lost their balls and other toys to Bella often. And we really feel sorry for that lady doing yoga a few weeks ago that lost her mobile phone to the ocean after Bella picked it up and ran away with it.
Today, Bella had Roxy's ball and wouldn't give it back. Even with 7 humans chasing her (fun!), no luck. Enter new puppy retriever. What's more interesting than a toy. Another puppy! Lucky Roxy.
Bella was too fast and furious for a photo opp today, but I did manage to catch the new pup and a couple of others.
A whisper of rain early this morning equaled a small segment of a rainbow over the jetty. We can expect a very wet beach later today and tomorrow morning, but Hunter and Riptide enjoyed chasing this ultra-energetic dog around in the foreground of the colors.
Today was the OB Jetty Cleanup, which happens every once in awhile. There is a regular Dog Beach Cleanup the 1st Saturday of each month, but I've never seen this many people, mostly teens, show up. They bussed elementary schools in, college and high school kids were there... I swear there were more people than dogs around 9:30 AM.
91X (one of SD's alternative rock radio stations) showed up with music. And so did a guy playing the bagpipes. I swear. He went to the middle of the beach and started blowing on the horn. Crazy. I was almost to the parking lot when I heard him and was too lazy to return all the way back to snap a pic, so you'll have to just imagine it this time.
Before we get to the happy dog pictures, I have two things to say:
1. To the guys and gals racing across the parking lot to see if the waves are good enough to catch one before work... SLOW THE FUCK DOWN!
2. To the people (including myself) who sometimes untether their dog before reaching the sand over the hill... KEEP YOUR DOG ON A LEASH UNTIL YOU GET TO THE BEACH!
Yes, this morning, some poor guy hit a young dog (hard) in the parking lot. The dog was out of control (young and full of energy) and the driver was going too fast to stop in time. While the dog left the beach alive and walking, its jaw was hit and ripped open on one side, and it appeared to be limping on its back legs. A tough lesson for the dog owner and driver, a not-so-gentle reminder for the rest of us who think it won't happen to them.
Even the best trained dog can catch sight of a bird, cat or other critter and bolt. They don't know they're supposed to look both ways.
Got it? Great. I was lucky enough to arrive AFTER the actual incident, but soon enough to see the poor dog limping to his truck and driven away (hopefully to a nearby vet).
Now, off to some snapshots of the happier dogs today...
[Rowdy is a new addition to the beach, and he lives up to his name. Riley just adopted him after the recent passing of one of her hounds. Rowdy is still learning proper beach etiquette, so he'll stay on leash for a few days, but he should be ready to run with the pack very soon.]I awoke to the sound of the fog horn (or an approaching cruise ship - I swear I can't tell the difference). At nearly 10:30, the thick stuff is just barely heading away from Point Loma.
Tempest and Riptide don't care if I can't see 5 feet in front of me when we drive to Dog Beach. It's all the same fun and games to them. :)
A little golden retriever puppy with white paws has been showing up at the beach fairly regularly. A little bit of competition for Lizzie, especially while she's out with a cut paw pad.
It may have been quick, but we had another great morning at Dog Beach. I had to be downtown at 9 AM, so we hiked down early and traipsed through the high tide. Clear, sunny day, but boy was the sand cold!
Sorry for the darkness for the past few days. I have been on the couch with a nasty sinus infection, which didn't give me much energy for taking pics. Of course, I wouldn't hear of depriving TempTide their beach time, so they went every day but yesterday. They are so spoiled!
Here is a guy that is the quintessential frisbee dog. Boy could he jump!
Here's Cody "chillaxin", as my friend Navjot would say. This is a pic from the weekend. Cody had a stroke earlier this year and walk very slowly, and he's nearly blind. But he just keeps cruising down the beach each weekend along with his human, Jim. He's usually in the water (easier on his joints, I'm sure), so I took advantage of his "dry" look.
Les Tres Amis (Frenchies Tempest, Zoe and Riptide) say "GO VOTE"! (or ALLER VOTER!)
Setting those clocks back one hour sure did bring out the masses. Plenty of people and dogs at the beach enjoying the sunshine before it turned to fog and mist. Plenty of the regulars, and a few new pups, too.
